Last night my girls had there first dance competition. It was a ZOO. Lol. They had over 169 total performances and that can take a LONG time. My girls started teams this year and have really liked it. They each performed a lyrical and a jazz dance and Leland is on a hip hop company and had one dance with that and also a huge production number with all the companies. It was so great!! I danced as a girl and loved it and it is fun to see my kids enjoying the same things i did as a child. Honestly if they wanted to quit and just play baseball I wouldn't care, but it's nice to have a few girlie girls in the mix. I was amazed at some of the talent I saw last night. Literally a couple times it took my breath away and gave me chills. I was really impressed with one dance studio the most and it makes me want to switch my girls. What do you think.... Where they go now is very good, but not the best. They get better every year and I'm not wasting my money, but there is a huge difference. The other place EVERY dancer had such beautiful technique and lines. They are really creating DANCERS. I know it is more intense and my studio is more laid back. I would love everyones opinion. Part of me feels if they are going to dance give them the BEST. ANd part of me thinks that they are having fun where they are and they are getting better so let it me more laid back. Thoughts?!?!?

Absolutely adorable!!! I LOVE dance! Callie did dance for 3 years and I loved watching her. I would get chill bumps when her instructors danced. THey were amazing. When I went to sign her up for the next year, I asked her if she was excited and she said, "mom, I really don't like to dance. I do this for you. The only thing I like is the recitals because Dad buys me flowers and I get a lot of attention. I'm more of an animal lover"
So there you have it. Now I sit in the scorching heat with a bunch of smelling stinky horses and flea ridden dogs all around me watching her take horse back riding lessons. She LOVEs being on top of a horse.
cute Pictures! It always cracks me up to see claire and her poses!
As far as the studio goes I think it all depends on what the girls think. they are so young and are they doing it to have fun or do you think that they are going to be full out dancers when they are older. It might be to young to tell. To be really good in dance though you almost don't have time to do much of anything else and I think your girls might be to young for that yet. Leland especially is so good at a lot of things I think that she should be able to play other sports. that's just aunt Stacie talking :_) love you!
To be honest with you, I'm pretty much scared to death of dancers' mothers so my opinion might be off a little bit.
Anyway, some of these companies demand massive time commitment of their dancers. One of our neighbors has had her girls in a company since they could walk and she often will "boast" how her oldest daughter dances 30 hours a week and that is during the school week! I see her arrive home regularly around 9-10pm from picking up these young girls from dance. But they CHOOSE this and if that is how they want their family to look growing up and it works for them, they should do it!
LIVE THE LIFE YOU CHOOSE! Whether you stay or change studios, you'll make the best choice for those darling little girls! :)
